Threshold is a decentralized platform offering cryptographic services to enhance security and privacy for Web 3.0 applications. It decentralizes operations like signing and access control across independent nodes. Core services include tBTC, a Bitcoin bridge, and TACo, an access control plugin.
Threshold's governance is community-driven, operating through the Threshold DAO, which combines members from both NuCypher and Keep networks. It consists of two bodies: the Tokenholder DAO and the Elected Council, which hold each other accountable. Governance proposals follow a structured lifecycle, starting with a community discussion on forums, followed by a temperature check, and then an on-chain vote requiring at least 1.5% of the T token supply for a quorum. Approved proposals face a 2-day timelock before execution. Governance participation involves delegating voting power, either through self-delegation or a third party, which can be changed anytime.
Threshold's security infrastructure is anchored by TACo (Threshold Access Control), enabling decentralized, end-to-end encrypted data sharing without relying on centralized authorities. TACo is the only fully decentralized access control layer for Web3 developers, ensuring that encrypted data is managed by a distributed network from the start. Additionally, Threshold maintains a Bug Bounty program with Immunefi, offering rewards for identifying vulnerabilities, and further enhancing network security.
